Dr Walker graduated from the University of Queensland in 1999. In 2009, following completion of his core Gastroenterology training, and a 12 month fellowship in interventional endoscopy, Dr Walker obtained his Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). Dr Walker commenced work as a Staff Specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital before embarking on a further 12 month fellowship in 2010 at the Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, USA. His 12 months focussed on pancreaticobiliary disease while obtaining further experience in ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde CholangioPancreatography), Endoscopic Ultrasound and advanced endoscopy. Dr Walker returned to Australia in August 2011 at which time he commenced consulting on the Gold Coast.
Dr Walker's interests include general gastroenterology, including the management of Coeliac Disease, reflux and irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease and bowel cancer screening. He has a special interest in interventional endoscopy including, endoscopic mucosal resection of large precancerous polyps and dysplastic Barrett's oesophagus, radiofrequency ablation (HALO), ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound.
Dr Walker is actively involved with the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) at the Gold Coast Private Hospital and Director of Endoscopic Services at the Gold Coast University Hospital. He is also actively involved in training junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
